PIXELROOM / FORMAT CONVERSION
The format is part of the image.
Choose an output format in Export, set quality where supported, and render. Pixelroom checks the encoder’s actual returned MIME type. It will not silently save a PNG with a WebP or AVIF extension.
What to choose
- JPEG: photographs and broad compatibility. No transparency; choose a background color.
- PNG: transparency, graphics and lossless encoding of the edited pixels. File sizes can be larger.
- WebP: smaller files with transparency and adjustable quality.
- AVIF: available only when the browser passes an encoding test. Decoding AVIF does not imply encoding support.
Supported inputs
JPG, PNG, WebP, GIF, AVIF and BMP files are attempted through the browser decoder. A damaged or unsupported file receives an error without removing your other images. SVG, HEIC and other unsupported types are excluded. Animated images export as a single still frame.
Metadata and color
The export is a new image created from canvas pixels. Source EXIF and GPS metadata are not copied; the browser can add its own encoding metadata. JPEG orientation is applied before editing where supported by the browser decoder. Color profiles and resampling vary between browsers; this is not a color-managed print proofing application.
